i'm definitely the hermit of the group..
i have had only one 'best friend' in life..
and we had the kind of friendship that is more like a dangerous pairing of two personalities that equal trouble when put together.. we shared nothing personal.. just got high and into mischief of every kind together..
i sent her a xmas card this year, but we barely have contact even after 30+ years..
other than that i'm terrified of other women, so i get along great with guys and kids and cats..
no friends, except online ones..
avoid relatives altogether except by mail only slightly..
everyone is held at arm's length but my hubby & son, kitties..
but when i was younger i realized i only picked friends that treated me like crap. i was always the one trying to be acceptable enough thinking i was crap.. so it's like it's what you expect and why you choose the people you do..
you say you didn't pick people out at first, noticing they were a certain way, but i disagree.. according to john bradshaw and most others in the field, we subconsciously pick up cues from others that incredibly steer us towards our own unfinished business.. and often what people show us up front is polar opposite to how they will be later on.. since people tend to put their best foot forward then reveal their real motivations later..
also like thumper said.. i think it's just the nature of friends..
they don't all last nor are all of them meant to..
there are only a few people who stick with you through time..
online & penpal is a great way for ads to socialize and yet keep safely distant, isn't it?
i mean thanks to the internet i can care about others without it costing me my security.. i can be affectionate, things i don't do in the 3d world..
i get to be nice..
in reality, no matter how i get to know people online, throw me in a room of them in 3d and i'd go into a complete panic.
but i'm full blown agoraphobic..
