oh man. this is just not our day.. my husband left for work in a light rain just before light.. and then called me 15 minutes later as he had been in a major accident on the freeway. he is ok, which is a miracle.. it was on the news and everything.. according to a nice witness the other driver was driving erratically.. she did a lane change behind my husband's truck into the fast lane beside him and then realized there was a stalled bigrig ahead in her lane and somehow she turned right into my husband's driver's side, literally ramming up under the truck lifting it up with sparks flying and sent him spinning across the freeway.. he is used to recovering himself on ice and automatically tried to turn into the spin or he would've actually flipped over.. thank god he had on his seatbelt.. after 3 or 4 spins he ended up way up the road over on the right and no one else hit him! we were trying to run the gas out of this truck/guzzler and switch to our old cavalier to save money so there was little gas in the tank or it could've blown.. the truck is totalled & undriveable and we had no collision ins. only personal & liability.. the lady's license plate is our souvenir, it was embedded face down in the driver's side door! we are screwed.. may end up in small claims court? but i just thank god he's ok. i just want to say to anyone listening.. please wear your seatbelts.. it can save your life.. since hit from under & side the airbag did not deploy.. ghost

So glad hubby's OK. That could have been awful - it sounds like it was awful enough. Dad's a retired AA man (automobile association, not the other ) so nightmare stories from an early age have forced me to wear a seatbelt to the extent that I literally cannot drive - not even reverse out of my parking space - without one. Hope you're all doing OK - thinking of you. Keep us updated... take care of the three of you (and kitties) [modified - missed an apostrophe!]

Hi everyone! And welcome Jennie, I'm glad you found this site. I think the people here give excellent advice/support. Sorry I haven't been around much, I've been busy with school and things. (I'm 19 yrs old, btw). When I have some down time, I hope to be able to explain what's been going on in my life. Take care everyone!

i'm still worried.. we went out and bought a new mummy bag for him.. it's rated to 0 degrees.. but a big storm is expected and up around mt hood you don't mess around with mother nature.. i think he'll be out of cel phone range.. well, i guess it will be a real 'wilderness survival'.. or a 'mom survival' here at home nailbiting..? i'm packing him roast beef pita sandwiches & v8.. ghost have fun today! (aren't these nice little safe paper hugs just our style? hehe..)

wow.. pete, that's a control freak for ya.. speaking of being a mom.. my son didn't end up going afterall.. we are in a major windstorm with rain & freezing night temps on the way.. (we get these wicked winds through the gorge..) and although he was all packed & braced to go through it, we just kept getting more & more concerned about the weather conditions/forecast, especially with the winds going all night.. he opted out.. got an email back from the instructor that he's trying to relocate the whole thing somewhere safer, i think others cancelled out.. yeah, i'm a mom.. he may be 19, but he's brand new to the pacific northwest and has never been camping in his life.. can't even tie a knot.. he's ocd/socialphobic (my dna) and was freaking out over feeling in over his head.. i mean to take students up to mt hood somewhere to an undisclosed location (?), out of cel phone range to possibly get lost orienteering in a rainy windstorm.. it just didn't seem all that prudent.. last week would've been fine, but below freezing in ongoing rain all night? that's not even starting to worry about the dang bears! he's on the dean's list and has a 'make-up' assignment.. so i don't think this little chink in his grade will matter much.. none of us could sleep worrying over this.. thanks everyone for your support!!!!!! ghost

Pete, I can't believe that! Breathe deeply, and from me x Ghost, so glad your son didn't go on the trek. I was wondering/worrying. I think he should get extra marks for knowing when to say 'no'. As I said, that's probably the most important outdoor skill.
