Hey All,
It's a long story that I will spare you, but I have done two sessions with a somatic trauma therapist. Anyone familiar with this?
It's too soon for me to really have an opinion, but my first impressions are very positive. I like the direct way it addresses emotion, without having to really talk about them - just explore the feeling itself.
Comparing regular (talk) therapy to somatic, I realize that it is often very difficult to express the "truth" in language, but on the other hand, it is very difficult to hide true emotion.
Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. Em

Hi Emma, I've not heard of that kind of therapy, maybe, if you have a chance you could explain it? I'm interested to know more about it. I've not had very good results with regular therapy Good luck with it-- keep us posted. and hope you enjoy your weekend too! clover

yeah.. i'm curious too, em.. maybe you will let us know more about it if it seems to help? i do remember reading that ad therapy should include more non-verbal work.. somehow it makes sense due to the unhealthy attachment problem being formed during a preverbal stage of development where non-verbal communication predominates.. ghost

Gee whiz! I'm glad you guys are interested, but so far I've only managed to get in three sessions. I started a new teaching gig and I am swamped (that is an old tune for me isn't it?). The therapist wants me gone by 4 pm because her daughter needs her (knife right thru the heart!). So getting there by 3 pm is difficult. I really think it is interesting and I still want very much to pursue it - and I will! But so far I am off to a very slow start.
